The Polk County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit is investigating a hit-and-run vehicle crash with injuries that occurred in the Kathleen area of Lakeland. Preliminary information is as follows:
Around 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, 17-year-old Elani Miller of Lakeland was walking east on the south side of Swindell Road, just east of the intersection with Pineville Lane, when she was struck by an SUV that was heading eastbound and continued eastbound, and was last seen heading towards Galloway Road. She was heading to a city bus stop.
The victim was propelled into a ditch partially filled with water. She was transported to LRHMC with non-life-threatening injuries, including a broken leg and broken wrist. She is expected to recover.
The suspect vehicle, according to witnesses and debris left behind, is possibly a 1999-2006 model dark-colored GMC Yukon or a 1999-2006 model dark-colored Chevrolet Suburban or Tahoe.
