During a seven-day joint-agency undercover operation led by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office focusing on those who prey upon and travel to meet children for unlawful sexual activity, and human trafficking, 281 suspects were arrested for a multitude of felonies: 239 arrests were related to soliciting prostitutes, offering to commit prostitution, and aiding/abetting or transporting prostitutes; 31 arrests were related to child sexual predators; and 11 other arrests were made.
The suspects were charged with a total of 198 felonies and 290 misdemeanors. Their previous criminal charges totaled 358 felonies and 440 misdemeanors.
PCSO detectives were joined by investigators from the Department of Homeland Security, Immigrations and Customs Enforcement; Attorney General James Uthmeier Office of Statewide Prosecution; Florida Department of Financial Services; State Attorney for the 10th Judicial Circuit Brian Haas; and detectives from the Auburndale Police Department, Bartow Police Department, Davenport Police Department, Lakeland Police Department, Lake City Police Department, Lake Wales Police Department, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, Hardee County Sheriff’s Office, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Army Criminal Investigations Division, and the U.S. Secret Service.
17 of the suspects told detectives they work at local theme parks or resorts, including Disney World and Universal Studios – 7 of these suspects were child sex predators.
32 illegal aliens were arrested, from 9 different countries. 22 suspects are collecting public assistance – $8,373 per month collectively (which equates to $100,476 per year).
There were 117 suspects arrested for soliciting a prostitute and traveling to the undercover location to negotiate having sex in exchange for money. One is an Orange County Deputy Sheriff, Eric Raymond.
The 122 suspects who travelled to commit prostitution were screened by detectives and the social service organizations One More Child and the Florida Department of Children and Families to determine if they were being trafficked or exploited by others, and all were offered services. During this investigation, 11 human trafficking victims were identified.
31 suspects communicated with and solicited who they thought were children or guardians of children online, and were very explicit about what they wanted to do in order to sexually batter those children.
“
It is extremely disturbing when we encounter nasty child predators like these who are very eager to have sex with children. This is why we conduct these types of undercover operations. During this investigation, we arrested 7 predators who work at local theme parks, and a children’s football and cheerleading coach. This is why it’s critically important that parents continually monitor not only their children’s online activities, but also to know who the adults are in your children’s lives. Keeping children safe is our number one priority, and we appreciate our partnering agencies, without whom we would not be as successful in apprehending these dangerous offenders.” –
Grady Judd, Sheriff
Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia said, “Child sex predators are some of the most vile criminals out there and they deserve to go to prison. Thanks to the leadership of Sheriff Judd and the work of Polk County Sheriff’s Office, these criminals are off our streets. My investigators will continue to assist our local law enforcement partners to protect our communities from human trafficking and child sex predators.”
HIGHLIGHTED ARRESTS FROM THE HUMAN TRAFFICKING INVESTIGATION:
Eric Raymond, 40, from Winter Garden, FL. Raymond has been an Orange County deputy sheriff for six years, and is currently assigned as a school resource deputy at Independence Elementary School. "
Orange County Sheriff's Office Deputy Eric Raymond should have known better. His actions demonstrate moral turpitude. The online prostitution industry enables and empowers human traffickers, allowing them to profit off the people they exploit. Our goal is to identify victims, offer them help, and arrest those who are fueling the exploitation of human beings like Eric Raymond and those profiting from the exploitation of human beings. Prostitution is not a victimless crime – it results in human exploitation, misery, disease, dysfunction, drug and alcohol addiction, violence, and broken families." -
Grady Judd, Sheriff
