Polk Sheriff’s Charities, Inc. was officially formed in December of 2006 and is a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit organization.
Although the idea for the charity had been discussed for some time, its ultimate formation was completed as a result of the tragic murder of Deputy Matt Williams and K-9 DiOGi after a routine traffic stop. The community’s outpouring of emotional and monetary support after that tragic event ultimately demonstrated how a charity like PSCI would be supported.
To date, the charity has provided monetary support to our members who are facing significant unexpected tragic events in their lives, including Sgt. Ronnie Brown’s family, after his untimely death as a result of injuries he received in an altercation with a Polk County jail inmate, and Sgt. Wes Whitmore’s family, after he was hit and killed by a motor vehicle while making a traffic stop.
Additionally, the charity has supported needs that the law enforcement community has identified, such as purchasing Christmas gifts for children in Polk County’s most economically challenged neighborhoods, providing sports jerseys for youth teams, supporting organizations dedicated to assisting victims of domestic violence, as well as supporting the agency's K-9 unit for replacement of their beloved K-9 partners.
Polk Sheriff’s Charities, Inc., is proud to partner with the Polk Education Foundation and offer scholarships to eligible high school students. The Heroes Tribute Scholarship was created to honor deputies who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
Seven (7) scholarships will be awarded to a graduating senior of a Polk County High School (public, private, or home schooled).
